At Nanoscience Instruments we market, sell, service, and support sophisticated scientific instrumentation in the field of electron microscopy. Our products are utilized by universities, government labs, and companies from startups to multinational corporations across the US and Canada.

We are hiring an Applications Scientist / Product Specialist for our cryo Electron microscopy group.  Cryo-EM has become a key technique for elucidating the 3D structure of complex proteins along with other cellular components in Life Science Research. We aim to become the leader in sample preparation technology for cryo-EM single particle analysis, cryo-electron tomography, cell biology, soft matter research and liquid phase electron microscopy, enabling scientists, researchers, and engineers in their quest to vitrify their samples of interest. Thus, enabling high quality imaging and reconstructions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Help existing customers to achieve maximum value from their VitroJet for their Cryo-EM workflow.
  • Be responsible for the completion of the technical sale. Perform product demonstrations at customer sites to support sales both online and in person.
  • Perform customer acceptance tests at the customer site.
  • Work with key customers to optimize the total workflow with the ultimate goal to make Cryo-EM a high throughput technique.
  • Provide feedback to Product Management for product improvements.
  • Develop and maintain the Applications Road Map for sample preparation in Cryo-EM based on input from leading customers.
  • Participate in relevant conferences and workshops to promote our Cryo-EM solutions and, more specifically, our recently launched VitroJet.

Education / Experience

  • Have a master’s degree or PhD in Biology, Physics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Sciences, or related fields
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of cryo-EM sample preparation, understanding and ability to operate high-end cryo-electron microscopes (TEMs and FIB-SEMs) is preferred
  • A benefit is a relevant working experience (2+ years)
  • Have experience in successfully vitrifying biological specimens
  • Preferably have been involved in various cryo-microscopy projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative, team-oriented personality, and acute attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve and handle challenges independently
  • Capable of writing articles in scientific and trade journals
  • Preferably experience with Python scripting
  • Customer focused
