Applications of Cathodoluminescence Detection in Geological Research

Abstract:

Studying formation of sedimentary rocks, observing changes in the chemical composition of zircons, and understanding underlying causes for luminescence of sapphires: all of this is possible with one versatile technique. Cathodoluminescence (CL) is a powerful method of data acquisition and analysis in geosciences as it reveals information not readily provided by other techniques.

Delmic and Nanoscience Instruments are inviting you to a webinar in which we will discuss the possibilities of cathodoluminescence imaging for studying geological samples. The webinar will consist of Delmic CL solutions overview and a talk by the leading expert of the field, Professor Cameron Davidson from Carleton College. He will be demonstrating how he is using his cathodoluminescence system to obtain high-resolution large area maps of detrital (and igneous) zircon samples. After the demonstration, you will get a chance to ask your questions to both of our speakers.
