3D Topography Module

Attension Theta Optical Tensiometer for Topography applications is ideal for studying microscale roughness. The Topography module is an innovative system capable of separating the effect of surface roughness to the contact angle result. As a result, roughness-corrected contact angles can be better compared with each other for research and quality control purposes. Roughness correction on contact angles also enables the calculation of fundamental surface free energy on rough surfaces.

Key Features:
  • Integrated method enabling to define contact angle and surface roughness accurately from the same location and to combine both surface chemical and topographical data with automated software calculations.
  • Offers fast surface characterization method, which does not demand specialist to run the samples.
  • Versatile roughness measurement: both 2D and 3D characterization.
Obtainable Datapoints:
  • Θc, roughness corrected contact angles
  • 3D and 2D topographical parameters and visualization
  • 3D roughness image and parameters: Sdr, Sa and Sq
  • 2D roughness image and parameters: Ra, Rq, Rp, Rv, Rz and R10z
Application examples:
  • Inkjet printing
  • Printed electronics
  • CA of small objects such as single fiber and small O-rings

Automatic Picoliter Dispenser

The Picoliter Dispenser is based on piezo-driven inkjet printing technology, and can dispense droplets as small as 20 picoliters. With a volume this small, a drop diameter of less than 100 µm is possible, depending on the contact angle formed.

Key Features:

The Theta Pico leverages the Attension Theta Flow‘s hallmark automation capabilities to remove user-dependent variation in contact angle measurements, enabling each experiment to be repeated with a high level of precision.

  • Can be used to measure the contact angle even on the smallest surfaces of less than 100 µm
  • Can create droplets as small as 20 pl

Tilting Cradle

The Attension Tilting Cradle allows software automated measurement of the dynamic advancing and receding angles as the droplet rolls on a tilted surface. Tilting options range from 0 to 90° with a resolution of 0.1°, giving a precise determination of a droplet’s roll-off angle.

Key Features:
  • Range of motion from 0° to 90° degrees, with resolution of 0.1°
  • Integration with OneAttension software to streamline data collection for dynamic contact angle research

Pulsating Drop

Go beyond surface and interfacial tension measurements to learn about the viscoelasticity of an interface. This technique expands upon the well-established pendant drop method: by oscillating the volume of a droplet with ultrafine control, the interfacial tension measured during the compression and dilation of a film at an air/liquid or liquid/liquid interface allows the rheological properties of viscosity and elasticity to be determined. These components can be used to quantify and characterize emulsion and foam stability.

High Pressure Chamber

The Attension® Theta High Pressure is a tensiometer for measuring wettability and interfacial tension at high pressures and high temperatures. The instrument is designed to ensure ease during measurements in the extreme conditions necessary for research into applications such as enhanced oil recovery or fuel storage.

Key Features:

The instrument consists of high-quality parts that ensure the ease of use, functionality, and safety of the system. The chamber itself is made from corrosion resistant stainless steel and can be optionally offered to be made from Hastelloy instead. The chamber includes three windows for visualizing the interphase. The chamber can be placed either in an upright or inverted position which removes the need for using hooked needles as the same straight needle can be used independently of the phases. The chamber sits on the Attension Theta optical tensiometer which uses Full HD-resolution camera to image the interphase precisely.

  • Measure surfactants or corrosive liquids.
  • Increase pressure without adding fluid into the measurement cell.
  • Enables constant surfactant concentration over different pressures.
  • Smart design to avoid pump corrosion from brine and other corrosive bulk solutions
  • Special Sample Port for easy introduction and cleaning
  • Automatic Pump Option
