Abstract:

Thermoplastic composites are rapidly gaining ground across industries demanding lightweight, high-performance materials with recyclability and design flexibility. Yet bridging the gap between early-stage research and scalable production remains a key challenge, where small-scale processing equipment plays a decisive role.

This webinar introduces the Xplore modular composite line system and its capabilities for thermoplastic composite research and development. The coating line, UD tape line, tow impregnation line, and 3D filament line are presented with emphasis on modularity, compact footprint, and the advantages these bring to academic and industrial R&D environments.

The second part of the webinar features Asst. Prof. Dr. Baris Caglar from TU Delft, who will share hands-on experience with the Xplore UD tape line in their laboratory. Drawing on current research trends in UD tape studies and real experimental examples, the presentation will explore how small-scale line performance compares to large industrial systems, and what this means for materials development, process optimization, and academic research workflows.

The webinar will highlight how small-scale modular processing lines can be translated into meaningful composite research outcomes, including UD tapes, long-fiber thermoplastics, fiber reinforced 3D filaments, and continuous fiber-reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing.
